	Charitable works		On our New Year's Day swims since 2007, The Coney Island Polar Bear Club has been proud to partner with Camp Sunshine. Camp Sunshine provides respite, support, joy and hope to children with life-threatening illnesses and their immediate families through various stages of a child’s illness. The year-round program is free of charge to all families, and includes 24-hour onsite medical and psychosocial support. Bereavement groups are also offered for families who have lost a child to an illness. Through our efforts and the generosity of our sponsors and New Year's Day swim attendees, we have raised over $75,000 to support Camp Sunshine. Our 2009 swim raised over $25,000 to support the good work of Camp sunshine On New Year's Day, 2005, well over $10,000 was raised to support Special Olympics New York. Swimmers who pledged a donation to Special Olympics New York were treated to a hearty pre-swim breakfast at the New York Aquarium while enjoying the penguin and walrus feeding and sea lions show. We wish to thank all of our supporters and sponsors for their assistance in making this the largest event in our history: Special Olympics New York, the New York Aquarium, Jimmy Dean, New York Transit Authority, Coca-Cola, Statewide Coffee of Staten Island, Morning Muffins of Brooklyn, Axelrod Foods, and the Brooklyn Cyclones. The Coney Island Polar Bear Club is proud to be able to contribute to worthy organizations within the Coney Island community.
